Under $100 / Europe

If you are a fan of classical history and mythology, there are probably many cities and destinations on your list to visit. Athens, Greece, contains many monuments and historic places. With so much to do, it is good to have an idea about how to keep your budget trim.

Start your day with breakfast at Smile Restaurant. You can get a meal here for about $10 and this little café offers a great take on traditional Greek food like gyros.

After breakfast, it is time to sightsee. Set out for the Acropolis of Athens. This awe-inspiring ancient complex features many works of historical significance, including the Parthenon.

After awhile, it is time for lunch. Head over to Ατίταμος. This authentic restaurant is reasonably priced, making it a great place to get lunch before heading out for more adventure.

After lunch, head to Plaka. This is a neighborhood in the shadows of the Acropolis filled with small shops, the perfect destination for an afternoon of browsing and picking up souvenirs. You can find Plaka on the north side of the Acropolis.

For dinner, you aren’t going far. Strafi Restaurant offers guests views of the Acropolis through dining. Fill up on authentic Athenian cuisine while looking out at the Acropolis. Head back to your hotel after a long day of adventuring and eating great food.

Hotel Bonaventure

While the snow continued to fall at a steady clip, my taxi pulled up outside Hotel Bonaventure Montréal. A quick departure from my cab and a few steps later, I was taken in by the distinctive style of the entrance corridor. A quick elevator ride to the lobby is necessary because Hotel Bonaventure Montréal sits on the final two floors of a 17-story business and professional complex. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Montréal, and even connects to the city’s underground concourse.

Enjoy the Open Road on Your Terms

For most of us, time in the car is “me time.” You can listen to that podcast you’re captivated by, blast that pop song and sing along at the top of your lungs or listen to the next chapter in that biography e-book you’re almost finished. A road trip only amplifies those opportunities. So, next time you’re traveling by road, take the wheel and take control. Opt for a rental car on your next vacation, rather than a rideshare, taxi or public transportation, and enjoy the open road on your own terms.
