Greece is known for its ancient wonders and stunning landscapes. The country is currently home to 18 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Make sure you explore these on your next visit.

 

Cultural

  • Acropolis, Athens: The Acropolis and its monuments is an important Greek architectural and artistic complex. The iconic site was designated in 1987.
  • Archaeological Site of Olympia: This site in the valley of Peloponnesus has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It became a worship site to the god Zeus in the 10th century B.C.
  • Archaeological Site of Philippi: Located in northeastern Greece, the remains of the walled city are the newest designated site on the list.
  • Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae: The oldest designated site is a temple to the god of healing and the sun. It was built in the 5th century B.C.

  • Meteora: Monks built 24 monasteries in this almost inaccessible region made up of sandstone peaks. The monasteries have been standing since the 15th
  • Mount Athos: Women and children are forbidden to visit this mountain and place of Orthodox worship. The area has been a spiritual center since 1054.
