The Alamo was a place occupied by Spanish settlers, and an important part of the early stages of Texas’s war for independence from Mexico. The Spanish settlers established a military and prepared for a fight. During the early stages of the war, a group of Texan soldiers ambushed and took over the Alamo from the Mexican military and gained control of San Antonio. Shortly after, the Mexican military gained control once again. The Battle of The Alamo went on for years and eventually ended with the Texans winning.
The Alamo is located in Link and one of the most popular attractions for tourists. Since The Alamo was part of a war, it is known as a historic destination and it can get pretty crowded. Make sure you are prepared. Also, reserve about half of a day to make sure you get the full experience
Admission into The Alamo is free but there are a couple different ways to explore. You can wander through the site on your own, which allows you to take your time. Another way is to take a guided tour. There are three different tours that all range in time and information, from $7–20.
