A recent survey from Cheaphotels.org found certain summer destinations are pricier than others if you’re planning a quick, end-of-season getaway. The survey particularly looked at cities in Florida, comparing 40 popular destinations and summer room rates through Aug. 31. The survey searched for hotels ranking at least 3 stars or higher and located in desirable spots such as in downtowns or by the beach.
So, what destinations in Florida should you avoid if you want to save cash this month? The survey found Pensacola Beach will be the top, most expensive destination for hotel stays through the end of summer, with the most affordable room rates averaging just less than $300. Similarly priced destinations included Fort Walton Beach, Anna Maria Island, Miramar Beach and Destin, Florida.
But if you want to avoid Pensacola Beach, where can you go to find the most affordable hotel stays for the remainder of the summer? Out of the 40 destinations compared, the survey found Miami Beach, Port St. Lucie, Hollywood and Tallahassee, Florida, were the most affordable, all with nightly room rates around $100.
Unfortunately, if you’re a budget traveler, you won’t want to wait long to plan your Florida vacay. The survey also found summer room rates in Florida are more than 50 percent more affordable than winter room rates.
