Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Rome is a gorgeous city. It’s one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and every year millions of people journey there. Outside of Rome, there are various other cities. Italy is a favorite country among tourists, so travelers usually take their pick from various big-name cities. However, there are also adventures to be had close to Rome. There are neighboring areas and places where travelers can get off the beaten path and explore something new.

Less than one hour from Rome, Calcata is a gorgeous Medieval town. It’s buildings are covered in ivy, making every moment an Instagram-worthy one. The town was abandoned back in the 20th century due to fears the walls would crumble. However, this town is not a ghost town; eventually, people migrated back to the village and it evolved into an artsy gem.

Also nearby Rome is the Giardino Di Ninfa or the Garden of the Nymphs. This beautiful area is home to plants and flowers who made the Medieval town of Nympha their home. This romantic garden is a great spot for dates. It was created in the early 1920s and is currently maintained by the Italian Environmental Fund. It’s only open a few weekend days each year to preserve the beauty so plan accordingly.

Castelli Romani is an area home to a some of the best strawberries. Visit the town, Nemi, during its annual strawberry festival, hosted between May and June. Make sure to take some strawberries for the road and try a slice of strawberry cake while there.

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
