Do you have a road trip snack you always reach for? Gas station snacks you absolutely have to have before embarking on a long journey in the car? A recent study conducted by Kellanova uncovered Americans’ favorite road trip snacks across the board.
“With the summer road trip season kicking off, we wanted to find out what people love to munch on the most…,” said Julia Wilkinson, senior director of insights, Kellanova. “With nine out of 10 road-trippers eating more than one snack during their travels, we also learned people’s ages and where they live heavily influences their road trip snacking decisions.”
The study found, overall, the most-loved road trip snacks are Pringles and Cheez-It crackers. If you look at the data based on where in the country traveler’s call home, you’ll find some regions differ, though, like throughout the South and Midwest, where Pop-Tarts take a top spot. (Cheesy snacks are also a favorite in the Midwest.)
As alluded by Wilkinson, when you look at generations, differences arise, too. Gen X road-trippers, for example, don’t pack snacks and prefer to buy them as they go. Gen Z travelers like to buy shareable and family-sized bags of snacks. Meanwhile, Boomers are more likely to go healthy, stocking up on nuts and seeds to fuel their adventures.
