When you’re stuck with a long, frustrating layover, sometimes, you just want a drink before you catch your next flight. Well, some airports will be better for this than others, according to a recent study conducted by Upgraded Points.
The travel company compiled 50 of the largest U.S. airports and compared them, looking at online info regarding airports’ on-site bars and restaurants, as well as Google reviews. Then, it ranked airports based on number of bars and restaurants serving alcohol per square mile and per 10,000 daily passengers, as well as the average star ratings for those alcohol-serving venues.
The results found the following airports are the top five for grabbing a drink, in descending order: Logan International Airport, Nashville International Airport, Kansas City International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Boston’s Logan International Airport boasts 10.2 alcohol-serving venues per square mile, which is 116 percent of the study’s average.
In contrast, the worst airport overall for a boozy layover was Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Hawai’i, with both limited options and low customer ratings. Oakland International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty international Airport were also among the worst for drink availability and customer reviews.
