Quietly on the rise is the cousin of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, known as cannabidiol, or CBD. THC is the more well-known component of cannabis; however, it is illegal in many states, so CBD has risen in popularity as a legal option. Stores selling CBD continue to pop up in major cities and towns.

THC is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant responsible for creating the “high” that comes from recreational use of marijuana. This component is not legal in every state and has many restrictions on it.

CBD is in both agricultural hemp and medical cannabis. CBD has the same chemical formula as THC but it’s arranged slightly differently. This difference causes CBD to not have the psychedelic factor THC has. This difference makes CBD more available to the public and legal to purchase for recreational use in many states.

Research studies show CBD can greatly benefit people medically by helping with pain, epilepsy, inflammation, depression and anxiety. CBD does not have the same effects as THC and does not affect the brain in the same way. This is why CBD is gaining popularity because many enjoy that it can help naturally ease problems while also being enjoyable.

Some side effects include nausea, fatigue and irritability. Also the FDA does not regulate the safety and purity of any dietary supplements with CBD so no one can know for sure if the listed active ingredients are listed correctly. However, for those willing to take the risk, there are multiple studies that provide evidence to CBD being a good option for managing anxiety or chronic pain.
