Starting Feb. 8 and through mid-March, New England Botanic Garden hosts its Pixels and Petals orchid exhibition. The garden’s Orchids After Dark events, starting Feb. 14, combine the experience with live music, small bites and libations. Other special events occurring at the garden this month include the Yeti, Set, Go! experience, which lasts through Feb. 23 and encourages visitors to find colorful yetis hidden throughout the landscape.
For skiing without some of the crowds you might find at the larger ski areas further north, try a visit to Wachusett Mountain or Ski Ward.

If you’d rather stay indoors and not brave the frigid temps, try a visit to one of the area museums, such as American Heritage Museum. In Worcester, you’ll find Worcester Art Museum and Museum of Worcester.
Fancy a festival? On Feb. 22–23, Worcester hosts its Dead of Winter Horror Festival, a film festival and convention celebrating the New England horror community.
