Cruises

Planning to go on a cruise in 2025? You’re not alone. Cruising is growing in popularity, according to a new survey from Squaremouth. The travel insurance provider noted a third of 4,000 surveyed travel insurance customers reported they planned to cruise in 2025, up from 26 percent in 2024 and 20 percent in 2023.

Unsurprisingly, a large number of these cruising travelers are among the older set, with Boomers leading the pack, accounting for more than half of all cruisers. However, Gen X and Millennial travelers make up their fair share of the cruising customer base, too, at 24 percent and 15 percent, respectively.

Want to avoid crowds, no matter who’s cruising? Pick a less-popular destination. Cruisers are headed primarily to Europe next year, with nearly a third choosing a European cruise. Nineteen percent choose to cruise to the Caribbean or Mexico. Less-popular cruising destinations include Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, Antarctica and, the least-popular spot, Asia.

While interest in cruising is increasing, Squaremouth also reported an increase in purchasing cruise-specific travel insurance is also up, with searches for 2025 policies up 91 percent over 2023. Travelers cite their reasoning for purchasing cruise insurance as fears of being sick or injured during a cruise, or becoming sick or injured ahead of a cruise.
