When traveling with your dog, you might choose to stay in an Airbnb rather than a dog-friendly hotel for myriad reasons. Maybe your dog doesn’t warm to other people quickly. Maybe they’re just a bit noisy.
Whatever the case, there are a few things to look for in a dog-friendly Airbnb.
Host Restrictions
First and foremost, peruse the listing’s house rules and complete details thoroughly. Sometimes, pet restrictions are hidden in the fine print. The host may be upfront about size or breed restrictions, as well as pet fees, but they may hide little details elsewhere, like “no dogs allowed on the furniture at any time” or “dogs must never be left unattended.” Those are details you’ll need to note.
Privacy
If your pet is reactive to noise, you’ll want to specifically look for a standalone home. Avoid apartments and townhomes. Your dog will already be getting accustomed to being in a brand-new place; you don’t want to make things extra stressful for them by exposing them to strange noises from neighbors. Beyond looking for a standalone home rental, also take note of where the home is located. Is it close to other houses? On a busy street? Near a parking lot or popular attraction?
Ease of Outdoor Access
Lastly, consider how easy it will be to take your dog out and about during your stay. Does the home come with a yard? Preferably a fenced-in yard? If you need to walk your dog, will it be easy to do so? Make sure the area you’re in has more than just sidewalks (especially during the summer, when sidewalks can be too warm for your pup’s paws). A nearby park or similar green space is crucial if the home comes with no green space of its own.
