Destinations / North America

When you think great foodie destinations of the Midwest, what cities do you think of? Cincinnati is a good option, as is Pittsburgh, and, of course, Chicago. But North Dakota? The city’s food scene might surprise you. If you find yourself in Fargo in the near future, here’s where to dine.

BernBaum’s

Founded by a James Beard Best Chef of the Midwest nominee and hailed as one of the best spots in not just the region but the entire country, to get a bagel, BernBaum’s is quaint, cute and oh-so-tasty. The menu features a mix of breakfast, small plates and bagel plates, with beyond bagel options ranging from shakshuka focaccia to latke brisket to a knish of the day.

Luna Fargo

With coffee shop origins, Luna Fargo now offers wine, beer, and local and organic eats. With an award-winning chef at the helm, the eatery’s dinner menu includes options like Iberico pork loin with fontina fondue and smoked mussel escabeche, and butter poached skrei cod with potato gnocchi and oishii shrimp.

Nicholes Fine Pastry

When it’s time to satiate your sweet tooth, try the James Beard-recognized Nicholes Fine Pastry. From downtown Fargo, the shop offers a range of favorites, from cannoli to napoleons, eclairs to cookies, all while keeping special dietary needs in mind with gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free options aplenty.
