Whether you work from home, travel a lot or are just trying to pursue more than one life goal, questions of how to balance work with life always come up. The first order of business is always balance. In order to achieve balance a couple of things have to happen. First, you need to prioritize. All things are not created equal. One of the bigger challenges facing anyone who wants to shift habits is applying equal weight to all tasks. This is a surefire way to become overwhelmed, which leads to procrastination and negative feelings. Decide what your top three priorities are and then prioritize them.
The second point may seem counterintuitive, but if you want to achieve discipline, you have to relax a little. This means you cannot punish yourself when you don’t accomplish a set of unrealistic goals. Set boundaries with others so you have time to finish projects and take time for yourself. Experts also suggest trying not to multitask. Set aside a specific amount of time for one task and then move on to the next only when time is over. Focusing like this and not allowing yourself to be interrupted every five minutes will make you less frazzled and will probably provide a better result than had you tried to accomplish five things in 20 minutes.
There is no end to the advice offered online for achieving better work-life balance, but they do all come down to scale. Prioritize your goals, break things down into manageable pieces, be present for whatever task you are doing and know most things can be finished tomorrow.
