Destinations / North America

Did you know Dallas, Texas, is the birthplace of the frozen margarita? In 1971, Mariano Martinez invented the world’s first frozen margarita machine at his restaurant, Mariano’s Hacienda, and forever changed the cocktail scene. Even today, Dallas is the perfect place in the United States to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

This Cinco de Mayo, travel along Dallas’ iconic Margarita Mile for the best margaritas in town. This self-guided adventure features top-tier mixology and drinks across the city’s neighborhoods. Guests can order everything from classic on-the-rocks margaritas to frozen margaritas to fruity margaritas to spicy margaritas. Not sure where to start? Here is the perfect guide to sip and explore the best drinks among the city’s 30 neighborhoods.

Stop 1: El Fenix

Start off in Downtown Dallas at El Fenix, a Dallas institution. Here, get the classic margarita for a delicious blend of fresh lime, agave and tequila.

Stop 2: Ruins

Next, head to Deep Ellum for a stop at Ruins, an art-centric cocktail bar highlighting agave and the tropic spirits of Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. For a unique twist on a tropical margarita, order the house favorite, Diabòlico Margarita.

Stop 3: Taquero

Make your way over to Lower Greenville for Taquero. Order the hibiscus margarita for a floral and tart twist on the traditional marg.

Stop 4: Casablanca Bar & Lounge

Over in the Bishop Arts District, head to Casablanca Bar & Lounge for a Casablanca Margarita, offering a bold fusion of Herradura Tequila, Empress Gin, Jalisco Orange and more.

Stop 5: Billy Can Can

End the trail in Uptown Dallas at Billy Can Can. The restaurant’s signature Sonora Showdown is a can’t-miss. This smoky yet sweet margarita blends tequila, mezcal and house-made tepache.
