A spoof of the Miss America Pageant, the Atlantic City event was started in 1994 to raise money for a local LGBTQIA+ charity. Since its inception, the drag event has raised more than $375,000 for charity. This year’s event takes place Sept. 14.

Nantucket Garden Festival celebrates Nantucket’s beautiful gardens and highlights the importance of sustainability. This year’s lineup of lectures, workshops, tours and kid-friendly garden activities takes place July 23–25. Stay in downtown Nantucket at boutique property Greydon House.
Kansas City, Missouri, hosts the first-ever Pickleball convention Aug. 8–11. Held at Kansas City Convention Center, the event will feature more than 100 pickleball courts and more than 80 vendors, plus special events and speaker panels. This annual event in Nashville, Tennessee, celebrates — you guessed it — tomatoes. Free to attend, the two-day festival features tomato-themed art, food, contests and activities. This year’s event will be held Aug. 9–10. Book a stay at Hutton Hotel, home to unique entertainment spaces.

Trailing of the Sheep Festival
This annual festival returns to Sun Valley, Idaho, Oct. 2–6. The main event involves 1,500 sheep moving from the mountains through town to the valley. The festival also features a fair, sheep-shearing demonstrations and culinary events. Book a stay at Limelight Ketchum as home base for your visit.
