Ghent, Belgium

While many tourists visit Bruges, Ghent offers equal charm with less crowds. Explore the city’s fairytale-like attractions like Gravensteen Castle. Visit during the shoulder seasons of April–June and September–October, or make the trip in December for the city’s Christmas offerings.

Poznań, Poland

This city in western Poland is known for its striking, rainbow-colored houses along Old Market Square. One of Poland’s greenest cities, about 25 percent of Poznań is comprised of green space. Visit May–September for the best weather conditions.

Quimper, France

Situated along Odet River in Brittany, France, Quimper is an up-and-coming culinary hot spot, home to Michelin-starred restaurant Allium. Visit in June through early September. In late July Quimper hosts a large music and dance festival.

Trenčín, Slovakia

Old and new meet in this historic city in western Slovakia. Trenčín boasts stunning medieval architecture alongside revitalized public spaces. Trenčín Castle and Mierové Square are must-see attractions. Visit between May–September for ideal weather. Slovakia’s largest music festival takes place in Trenčín in July.

Turin, Italy

The capital of Italy’s Piedmont region was recently named 2025 European Capital of Smart Tourism for its sustainability, accessibility and cultural heritage. Best times to visit include May and June, September for truffle season, and December for the festival of lights.
