Avoiding Hidden Airline Fees

You know the moment when you find an incredibly cheap airline ticket. Maybe you need a one-way ticket to a great detour city amid a larger trip and you find it for a brilliant $60. It is almost too good to be true! And it probably is because they charge for luggage. Gone are the days of free luggage (within reason), a nice complimentary coffee and a warm pair of airline socks, free of charge. Imagine your dismay when you have to pay an extra $100 when you check-in just to take all of your possessions with you.

Okay, it is usually not that bad, or at least that scenario can be avoided and, by the way, you never got free socks on puddle jumpers. Most airlines that charge for baggage offer semi-affordable fees if you are prepared to pay ahead of time. This may cause you to think about how much stuff you will have with you when the time comes. Pack well, pay for luggage as early as possible and definitely before 30 hours ahead of your flight. Alternatively, only travel with an appropriate carry-on, weigh your bags ahead of time and check the dimensions. When in doubt, contact the airline to check for any issues that aren’t included in the fine print of your ticket.
