Baltimore Hotel Launches City’s New Signature Sandwich

Many destinations can claim signature sandwiches. Philly has the cheesesteak. New Orleans has the po’boy. Currently, Baltimore doesn’t really have a singular sandwich it can say is all its own, but one hotel is hoping to change that.

At Marriott Hotel at Metro Centre Owings Mills, on-site restaurant The Tillery invented the BALTIMORE sandwich. Rather than choosing ingredients reflective of the city’s history or culture, though, the ingredients were creatively pulled together into an acronym. The sandwich’s ingredients include Bacon, Avocado mousse, Lime, Tomato, Ikura, Mayo, Onion and a Runny Egg. Do note you do have to specially request that the sandwich’s “I,” or ikura (salmon roe), be included, as it’s an additional upcharge of $15. Otherwise, the restaurant serves the sandwich at $16 on its brunch and lunch menus.

“This sandwich is more than a meal, it is a love letter to Baltimore,” said the restaurant’s chef Matthew Zafrir. “I wanted to create something approachable, playful and rooted in pride for our city, while still offering guests the opportunity to elevate the experience with a luxury twist. It’s the perfect representation of our philosophy at The Tillery: technically sound food that remains unpretentious.”
