If you’re planning to visit Lima, Peru, in 2023, don’t make the mistake of not scheduling a quick daytrip from the city during your visit. Here are four places you can visit in just a day’s time.
The Palomino Islands
Visiting the Palomino Islands is relatively simple; just takes a short drive to Lima’s port and then a 6-mile boat ride. Once on the islands, enjoy wildlife watching as you take in sea lions, blue-footed boobies, pelicans and even penguins.
Lunahuana
Three hours south of Lima, Lunahuana was once the second-largest Incan city. You can see the historic sites in the city center, but then also explore the wealth of outdoor adventure located nearby. From horseback riding to river rafting to zip lining, your options are vast. Wineries and vineyards are also in the area.
Pachacamac
An hour’s trip from Lima, Pachacama sits on the coast and is an archaeological site reflecting four different civilizations and more than 1,000 years of habitation.
Caral
Similarly, Caral boasts status as one of the oldest settlements in the Western Hemisphere and the oldest civilization in the Americas. See the remains and why this long-ish daytrip from Lima is entirely worth it.
