Destinations / Europe

River cruises have taken center stage in recent years. Travelers all across Europe have discovered a tour down the continent’s many rivers is a fantastic way to take in the sights. But which ones are worth the money?

Tauck River Cruising is a family-owned business with more than 85 years of experience. The family has connections across Europe and offer destinations no other cruise line can. Each boat offers more than one tour director, ensuring personal attention and insightful commentary the whole trip. They offer boats that will fit your budget, and the tour along the Danube is one of the best.

U River Cruises is another favorite that tours through Germany, Slovakia, Austria, The Netherlands and Hungary. The tours of the Rhine stop in Amsterdam, offering you three days to explore this popular Dutch destination. They also offer a wintertime ride down the Danube that passes by all of the best Christmas markets in Europe. Weeklong tours start at only $1,999.

Crystal Cruises is the premier luxury cruise option in Europe. The all-inclusive river tours boast five boats that features suites, butlers, and the largest accommodations on any riverboats on the continent. There are 24-hour, in-suite dining options, complimentary shore excursions, overnight stops to exploreand more.

Travelers also shouldn’t miss out on the Douro River. AMA Waterways offers an exciting, seven-day trip across Spain and Portugal that travels through the world’s oldest demarcated wine region. While it’s certainly not its only river cruise, it’s easily one of the best, making them worth a peek all on its own.
