CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa, in the Sonoran Desert of Scottsdale, invites wellness-seekers to take advantage of the Arizona off-season and summer heat with its lower rates and one-of-a-kind wellness offerings.

Rather than avoiding the heat, CIVANA embraces it, incorporating it into its wellness programming. Often referred to as a playground of wellbeing, the resort has experiences that use the heat to help support circulation and build endurance with activities like guided desert hikes along trails filled with saguaros and mesquite trees.

The Sonoran Desert heat plays an important role in wellness and recovery. After combing through a variety of studies published in Experimental Physiology, CIVANA learned heat therapy reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as improving vascular function.

CIVANA brings back its popular Moonlit Intentions: A Full Moon Kayaking Journey, which features kayak rides across the water under the shining moon while reflecting and connecting with the environment.

Throughout summer, travelers can participate in programming that combines outdoor, heat-based activities with spa therapies, cooling pools and mindful experiences. Highlights include:

Summer Camp for the Soul

This three-night women’s retreat runs July 11–14 and July 18–21 and focuses on making connections. Programming includes guided classes, sunrise desert hikes, journaling workshops, communal meals and spa treatments. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Sonoran Desert while sharing the experience with others. Altogether, the programming is set to combine physical activity, creativity and relaxation over three days.

Spa & Recovery Offerings

The award-winning spa features 22 treatment rooms that prioritize healing through water to outweigh time spent in the desert heat. The Aqua Therapy Circuit is a self-guided hydrotherapy ritual inspired by the European tradition of “taking the waters,” and moves guests through hot and cold experiences such as Kneipp wading pools, a Tepidarium, a Sanarium and a cold deluge. Guests can also add on massages, facials and bodywork treatments, as well as time in the Watsu therapy pool.
