This month, Lake Charles, Louisiana, debuts a major new cultural landmark. The new Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu replaces the original museum lost during Hurricane Laura in 2020.
The immersive new museum will boast the world’s largest display of Mardi Gras costumes with interactive exhibits. Visitors will dive deep into Cajun and Creole culture, parade history and more than 60 active krewes.

Positioned along 1–10, the new museum complements festivals, food and nearby Creole Nature Trail. The museum serves as a symbol of resilience and reinvention for Lake Charles, and for travelers wanting to avoid the crowds of New Orleans, the museum is the perfect way to explore and celebrate Mardi Gras culture.
The museum is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Other Mardi Gras experiences in the area include the Krewes Parade, Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off and Royal Gala.
