Buffalo, New York, has a busy summer ahead, with events worth planning a trip around starting soon.
On June 7, catch the Buffalo Pride Parade. This year’s theme is Rooted in Pride, and the parade along Elmwood Avenue draws thousands to celebrate with colorful floats and performances.
Then, stick around for the city’s Juneteenth Festival, June 13–14 in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. It’s one of the longest running such events in the country, celebrating its 50th year. Over the two days, you’ll find parades, educational programming, live music and more.
If you can’t make it to Buffalo until later in the summer, Garden Walk Buffalo, July 25–26, is a can’t-miss occasion wherein visitors are welcomed into more than 300 private and public gardens. It’s considered the largest free, self-guided garden tour in the country. (Pro tip: If you’re going to be in the area sooner, May 16 and 17, the same organization, Gardens Buffalo Niagara, hosts a spring weekend open gardens event, allowing you to visit a smaller number of gardens across the region.)
Meanwhile, foodies need to make tracks for the 25th National Buffalo Wing Festival, Aug. 29–30. Beyond the wing-eating contests and taste-testing your way through the city, you’ll enjoy live music and similar festivities.
