Rainforest Expeditions is a mission-driven ecotourism brand operating three ecolodges in Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve, one of the only remaining areas of the pristine Amazon Rainforest.

Founded in 1996, Rainforest Expeditions is rooted in conservation, scientific research and meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities, using ecotourism as a tool to protect the Amazon. The company built its portfolio around unique rainforest experiences; scientific research; and long-term partnerships with Indigenous communities, including Ese Eja Community of Infierno.

Rainforest Expeditions also features an award-winning, citizen-science program, WIRED Amazon, allowing guests to become scientists for the day and participate in research alongside experts. Research expeditions can include everything from helping identify undiscovered species and monitoring jaguars through camera traps to studying the vocalizations of primates.

The three ecolodges offer a distinct way to experience the area:

Tambopata Research Center

Tambopata is Rainforest Expeditions’ most remote ecolodge, deep in the Tambopata National Reserve across from Bahuaja Sonene National Park and surrounded by wildlife. The lodge has been the center of some groundbreaking conservation research since 1989, and is home to Tambopata Macaw Project, working to protect and better understand the region’s iconic birds.

Posada Amazonas

In partnership with Ese Eja Indigenous Community of Infierno, Posada Amazonas is fully owned by the community and 75 percent of the lodge’s profits are distributed to community households. Indigenous community members are guides at the lodge and share their knowledge of the area during visits to local farms and an ethnobotanical center. The lodge also features handcrafted carvings telling its own stories created by community members.

Refugio Amazonas

Sitting on more than 200 private hectares of land, the protected Brazil nut forest in Tambopata National Reserve, Refugio Amazonas houses the WIRED Amazon program allowing guests to become scientific researchers.
