The glitz and glam of a Mediterranean-style vacation can be appealing, but long-haul flights, extensive planning and high prices can be intimidating. But what if you didn’t have to leave the country to experience one? Enter: Catalina Island. This island is just an hour boat ride from Los Angeles and features all the things a Mediterranean trip would, such as stunning harbor views, hillside towns and a walkable seaside village.
This summer, the island gears up for an exciting lineup of fun, including the reopening of a beloved hotel, new dining experiences and more.
Pavilion Hotel, re-opened in March following a refresh, offers an island oasis for guests. Located in the heart of Avalon and only 14 steps from the ocean, guests can enjoy updated rooms and suites, new waterfront dining experiences, and a lush courtyard perfect for relaxing by the ocean.
For dining, head to Pier 24, the island’s newest oceanfront restaurant. The restaurant pays homage to the historic Steamer Pier and William Wrigley Jr.’s cross-channel steamship through its coastal cuisine, harbor-forward design and one-of-a-kind views.
Sip craft beers, taste small bites and enjoy the lively waterfront atmosphere at Fix Biergarten. You’ll even find a casino with some cool amenities. Skate in vintage-style roller skates around the iconic circular dance floor in Wrigley Ballroom at Catalina Casino.
Adrenaline seekers, meanwhile, can soar 600 feet above Descanso Canyon. This two-hour experience at Zip Line Eco Tour takes travelers on an adventure across five zip lines.
And, for time in the sun, Descanso Beach Club, Catalina’s only beachside restaurant and bar, is the place to be. Travelers can reserve a cabana for some privacy or enjoy food and drinks beachside.
