If the ritzy and expensive status of Sitges is too much for you to handle, look to the southeast of Spain, at the city of Benidorm for your next gay getaway. This city in Spain has long been proud of its progressive reputation and was one of the first LGBTQ-friendly destinations in Europe.
The annual Benidorm Gay Pride festival runs each year during the summer and brings in roughly 8,000 locals and tourists. Revelers enjoy free drag performances, musical acts and, of course, a magnificent parade that runs along Levante Beach. The rest of the year the gay community flocks to the area of the city known as Old Town. Here you’ll find roughly 30 gay bars and clubs to choose from. Some popular ones include Spirit, Eagle Bar and Mercury. The gay sauna in town is H20, where you’ll find plenty of spas and steam rooms to relax.
Outdoors, there are plenty of beaches in the city but the most popular among the LGBTQ community are Ti Ximo Cove and Racó de Conill.
Benidorm is a great place for gay travelers to visit as the majority of the citizens are open and welcoming toward the community, so you can’t go wrong booking a vacation here.
