Trends / LGBTQIA+

Costa Rica has long been at the forefront of the battle for gay rights in Central America, which may be why it’s home to so many fabulously friendly gay destinations. Manuel Antonio might not have the glitz and glory of the country’s capital city of San Jose, but it certainly stands on its own when it comes to variety and fun for the LGTBQ crowd.

Manuel Antonio is situated at the cusp of one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful natural rainforests, full of exotic species of flowers and creatures, making it within easy access to endless adventure. It’s also right on the ocean so there are plenty of watersports and hot bodies to enjoy.

When it comes to places to stay, a few favorites of the LGBTQ crowd include GAIA Hotel & Reserve and the Hotel Villa Roca. Nightlife is a true highlight of the town, with clubs like KARMA and Mogambo both great spots to meet locals and kick back. Karolas holds a weekly LGBTQ get together in the afternoon, offering fantastic food and excellent views.

Gay Tours offers plenty of adventures in the area, from gay-only canopy tours to snorkeling trips and sunset sailings. Don’t forget to relax at Terra Spa for a massage when you’re trough trekking the jungle or riding the waves.

Overall, Manuel Antonio is one of the best places to visit in Central America for the LGBTQ community. Locals are warm and welcoming and you’ll find so many things to do that you’ll likely book a return trip before you’re done with the first.
