Just 25 miles from Washington, D.C., Loudoun County, Virginia, is continuously evolving, offering cultural experiences and initiatives, luxury stays, and an improving international wine story. Here are some reasons why you should check out Loudoun County this year.
A new boutique hotel recently opened in Leesburg. Highly anticipated Hotel Burg offers a 39-room property spanning three architecturally different buildings — each inspired by classic Americana. The hotel is also home to the MICHELIN-starred restaurant The Huntōn, with a menu featuring true American cuisine where each dish features ingredients evoking memories, the feeling of travel and discovery. Before or after dinner, make sure to stop by Diana Lounge for yummy cocktails and panoramic views from the rooftop.
One thing that always draws visitors to Loudoun is the wine scene. The destination recently formed a partnership with Uruguay, specifically highlighting Tannat, the country’s signature grape. In the fall, local wineries will host visiting Uruguayan winemakers to collaborate on bottles and wines debuting later this year. In the meantime, make sure to stop by many of the local wineries to taste and compare the local wines.
In partnership with the Town of Leesburg and Thomas Balch Library, Morven Park launched a project called the 246 Years Project, the first searchable genealogical database documenting enslaved individuals in America. This online resource was built from digitized historic records from the area and honors millions of lives. The new project also offers a powerful new look at American history and genealogy, giving visitors a better understanding when going to the library itself.
