Montréal turns into a true winter wonderland every year, starting with the holiday season and continuing into winter. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy in Montréal this winter season:

Hotel News

The visionaries behind Montréal institutions like Makro and Restaurant Grinder unveiled Maison Grinder, a 15-room boutique hotel in a heritage building in Montréal’s Griffintown.

The long-awaited Hotel SonoLux opens this month in Old Montréal’s National Trust Building, featuring 10 exhibition spaces dedicated to contemporary art, 36 guestrooms and two dining venues. Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile’s property-wide transformation is now complete.

Holiday Festivities

From Nov. 21, 2025, to Jan. 4, 2026, The Great Christmas Market transforms Montréal’s downtown into a festive wonderland with nearly 60 artisans, local delicacies and seasonal treats. Nearby is Montréal’s Christmas Village, Nov. 27 to Dec. 21.

Downtown Montréal also comes alive with skating rinks, including at Esplanade Tranquille. Come nightfall, the ice surface transforms into a digital canvas through an interactive projection. LUMINO, a season-long festival that transforms winter nights into a dazzling celebration of light, creativity and artistry with nearly 20 installations, runs Nov. 27–March 8.

Culinary

Sugar Shack Season celebrates the maple harvest with hearty meals, family fun and plenty of syrup. Just outside Montréal, Sucrerie de la Montagne and Labonté de la pomme are among beloved spots to indulge in this time-honored tradition. In the city, visit Paparmane tearoom or  Villeray’s Mlles Gâteaux.

Montréal chefs put their own twists on Québec’s comfort food during La Poutine Week, Feb. 1–7, 2026. Eateries across the city serve inventive takes on fries, gravy and cheese curds.

Signature Favorites

Igloofest, the electronic outdoor music festival, brings thousands of music lovers together in Old Port Jan. 15–Feb. 7, 2026. One of the largest winter festivals in the world, MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE (Feb. 27–March 7, 2026) welcomes more than 800,000 visitors each year before culminating in Nuit Blanche, an all-night celebration. The Annual Winterworks Festival in February showcases theatrical creations from Montréal’s independent theater artists. Montreal Museum of Fine Arts showcases a newly reimagined presentation of its decorative arts and design collection inside Liliane and David M. Stewart Pavilion.
