Next summer, Denmark welcomes all-new Egtvedpigens Verden (Egtvedpigen’s World) museum, exploring the life of the famous Egtved Girl, a Nordic Bronze Age girl whose well-preserved remains were discovered near Etgved.
The girl died in about 1370 B.C.E., and her burial has provided fascinating insight into Nordic Bronze Age life and death. First excavated in 1921, the burial not only held the teenage girl’s remains (determined to be of Swedish or Norwegian origins) but also preserved clothing, a belt and coffin.

The museum has been 10 years in the making and, when open, will transport visitors to life 3,500 years ago.
The World of Egtved Girl will feature exhibits across five main topics: the young woman, Bronze Age mythology, the child’s secret, remove connections and Egtved in the Bronze Age. These five themes form the framework for the life lived precisely at the site where the grave was found.
The museum will be interactive and engaging through visuals and storytelling.

“The story of the Egtved Girl is the story of Denmark,” said Flemming Hedegaard, head, Velje Museums, behind the museum project. “We are incredibly happy that both the Danish Parliament and Nordea Foundation have decided to support the project. It opens up even more opportunities to tell this important story even better.”
The village of Egtved lies just a 30-minute drive from Billund and about 2.5 hours from Copenhagen.
