During a recent trip to Stowe, Vermont, I had the pleasure of revisiting one of my favorite hotels in the area, The Field Guide Lodge. I had previously stayed at this Lark Hotels property in 2020, so I was excited to revisit now that pandemic-related precautions were no longer needed and to stay in a new-to-me guestroom: a Trail House suite.
The Field Guide Lodge has a distinctly Vermont feel, with plenty of nods to the area’s outdoors and ski culture. This is continued throughout the suite, which featured plenty of wood notes, a faux taxidermy deer above the fireplace and furnishings that incorporate woodsy elements. The suite was rather large, with a small entryway, large living space, furnished balcony, bathroom with both a shower and soaking tub, and a private bedroom.
While still modern, the suite did show a little wear and tear, and, unfortunately, the view was of the hotel’s pool area. While there was, thankfully, no excess noise due to this, it wasn’t exactly welcomed.
Beyond the pool area, the property also offers a hot tub, fire circle and an expansive bar dubbed Après Only that was, admittedly, the most aesthetically pleasing, Instagram-worthy space I saw throughout the entire property, with its luxe vintage ski vibe. Daily (complimentary) breakfast is served here, and you can also swing by for a full drink menu and small array of snacks in the evening. Throughout my stay, the space remained relatively quiet, with only a few patrons in the bar at one time.
Otherwise, The Field Guide Lodge offers a relatively good location. While not within walking distance of Stowe’s Main Street, it is within walking distance of several restaurants, bars and shops.
In all, while the guestrooms could use a little TLC, this is one property I would continue to return to on future trips.
