The Patras Archaelogical Museum officially opened to the public and still seems to be undergoing some growing pains. During my visit only two of the exhibitions were open to the public.
The first was a showcase of various tools and jewelry from ancient Greece up until the present era, as well as some partially reconstructed homes. There was also a mosaic collection impressive to behold.
The second section was a bit more exciting and focused primarily on the tombs used throughout the burial process in the history of Patras and the region of Achaia. It was a bit morbid, with what I believe were replicas of actual dead soldiers from the past, but still fascinating to explore.
Entrance was free on the day I arrived and the overall appearance of the building was unique, but I’m not sure I can say I’d return. Perhaps when the rest of the museum is up and running it’ll have more to offer. As it stands it’s supposedly the second largest museum in Greece, but it didn’t seem like it while I was there.
It’s worth a stop if you have some extra time but probably not worth going out of your way to see.
