Two new rejuvenation rituals are now available at Six Senses Kyoto, an urban nature resort tucked in the historic heart of the Higashiyama district. The spa introduced HAKE KIYOME and OMOTE, two exclusive facial treatments, earlier this month.

Developed in partnership with well-known Japanese skincare house Lapidem, these programs go beyond typical cosmetic quick fixes and become an investment in self-connection.

HAKE KIYOME: A Brush Purifying Facial Rooted in Cleansing Rituals

Japan is home to the cultural practice of kiyome (purification), where the main focus is to reset the mind and body in preparation of what’s to come next. Translating this into a soothing skincare experience, this treatment lifts away impurities, clears pores with handmade facial brushes and allows skin to reclaim its natural clarity without the use of simple cosmetic tools.

OMOTE: A Contouring Facial Inspired by the Restraint of Noh Theater

Also known as a mask worn in Noh theater traditions, the omote creates an illusion of no painted expressions, rather it allows the actor to project emotion through the slightest shift in angles. The OMOTE facial treatment applies this philosophy during application, as fine Japanese calligraphy brushes stimulate the skin before a 104-degree warm plaster mask firms and outlines the face’s natural structure. The session also embraces Sokushindo, a Japanese reflexology technique focused on feet, highlighting the importance of facial tension connection to the entire body.
