Tips / Travel

Packing for a trip comes with heaps of excitement as you anticipate the adventures that await. However, common packing issues may arise, bringing your excitement to a standstill. Combat these roadblocks with the following tips.

You’re a souvenir collector

You prepare aptly by packing your suitcase to the brim so that you have everything you may need. But what happens when you want to take home an authentic Pashmina scarf or a statuette made by a local tribe? If you’ve run out of room in your luggage, consider shipping your items back home. Make sure you receive a tracking number and confirmation as international shipments have the potential to be unreliable. Another option is to set aside room in your luggage before you leave home. This way, you know you will have a small amount of spare space in which to pack any unanticipated souvenirs.

You do not want to pay to check a bag

Unfortunately, most airlines now charge a fee to check a piece of luggage. To avoid facing these fees, you can limit your belonging to one carry-on item and one personal item. To cut back on space, research the laundry options at your destination. You may have access to laundry facilities at your hotel or at a nearby laundromat. When packing light, remember to wear your heaviest items (shoes, coats, scarves) on the plane.

You simply do not have enough room in your allotted luggage

If you have packed everything you will need and your zipper barely closes, it may be time to re-evaluate your packing list. Research whether you will be able to buy inexpensive items like travel-sized toiletries, an umbrella or a pair of shower shoes at your destination. When you are finished with the items, you can leave them behind.
