Mexico’s second-biggest city is chock-full of great places to have a drink. Here are five of the best to visit on your next trip.
This popular place has a menu on which everything costs 19 pesos (around $1). There are two floors of tables, and things get rowdy as the night wears on. With prices like that, it’s understandably one of the most affordable places in the Tlaquepaque neighborhood.
The largest cantina in the world is, in fact, a collection of different establishments set around a large courtyard. Find a table and listen to the mariachi bands do the rounds throughout the evening. It’s more expensive than other places, but you do get free entertainment thrown in.
This newish beer hall has 24 ales on tap, drawn from the exploding microbrewery scene in the city. DJs provide the soundtrack and there is a roof terrace where you can make the most of balmy evenings.
It might be far from mezcal’s homeland in Oaxaca, but this mezcaleria has a huge selection of the agave spirit. You can also try other agave spirits, such as raicilla and bacanora, at this trendy spot.
Traditional cantinas are found all over Mexico, offering a homey environment where you can drink cheap beer. Each round comes with free snacks at La Occidental, and there is live music on Thursday and Sunday nights.
