Last month, Uber launched a few new safety features, ensuring passengers and drivers have a secure experience. Now available in cities like Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas and Nashville, the first new addition is a feature allowing female customers to select female drivers.
Uber first piloted the Women Preferences feature this summer in certain cities. From this test run, Uber found “many riders and drivers have told us it gives them more comfort and confidence on every trip.”
Female passengers can now specifically select women drivers both in advance and on demand. Other cities offering the new feature include Baltimore, Charlotte, Honolulu, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Tampa, Upstate New York, San Diego and St. Louis.
Additionally, Uber also announced an expanded feature for teen riders. They and their parents can also now request female drivers when booking rides. Uber first introduced teen accounts in 2023 for riders ages 13–17, but this enhanced option gives parents of teen riders the option to be matched with a woman driver through the app.
Women drivers with Uber can also select Women Rider Preference in their app settings to receive trip requests from women riders, offering female drivers new ways to earn on their terms, with flexibility and confidence.
