What to Know About Visiting Cyprus’ Blue Lagoon

Travelers can’t go to Cyprus without a stop at iconic Blue Lagoon, along the Akamas coastline. There are multiple ways to get to this stunning attraction, whether by hiking, taking an ATV or on a boat trip. If you want to swim in the waters, a boat trip is the best option as it docks in the deeper waters. Those who choose to hike or take an ATV have to climb down a rocky cliff side to access the turquoise waters.

During my trip to Cyprus last year, we set off on our morning excursion with Latchi Queen. Once on the boat, we had the option to sit on the first level in the shade or soak up the sun on the top deck. As it was a nice day out, I wanted to sit on the upper deck to enjoy the warm sun and calming breeze. Not too long after we left, a dock hand came around with some orange juice, red wine, white wine and apple slices for us to snack on during our short ride. As we were pulling up to the Blue Lagoon, I was in awe. The waters were more beautiful than I expected — I couldn’t wait to get in. We docked just inside the swimming perimeters and our captain explained the rules, let us know when it was time to get back on the boat and set us on our way. You have an hour of free time to use however you want before the boat gets ready to head back to the marina.

How you experience the lagoon is up to you: Jump in off the back platform, ease in with the ladder or take advantage of the exciting inflatable slide off the side of the boat. I was already in the water by the time I saw there was a slide, so I was jealous of those who got to experience it. I could have swum back to use it as it was up the whole time, but I was enjoying just floating.
