Destinations / North America

New York state has plenty to celebrate in 2026. The Empire State offers new attractions, hotel openings and events for residents and visitors alike. In addition, the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations and FIFA World Cup give travelers even more reasons to love New York.

MetLife Stadium will host eight games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the first June 13 and the last July 19. The U.S. Open Championship will be held June 15–21 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Long Island. Watch the FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach State Park July 5–6 in honor of the semi-quincentennial. Check out Sail 4th 250 in New York Harbor, July 3–9.

John F. Kennedy International Airport debuts phase one of its $19 billion redevelopment project by reopening terminals 1 and 6 in 2026. Highly anticipated new and renovated lodging options for 2026 include Mirabeau Inn & Spa – Beacon, Kimpton Era Midtown NYC and Little Nell Hotel. Learn more about the American Civil Rights Movement at Urban Civil Rights Museum, scheduled to debut in 2026. Visit the new ADA-accessible forest canopy walkway attraction at Tanglewood Nature Center, slated to open in spring or early summer.

“As we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary and welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup, there’s no better time to explore New York State – where every corner tells a story. From the historic grounds of Fort Ticonderoga and the National Baseball Hall of Fame, to the Statue of Liberty and the thundering power of Niagara Falls, visitors will discover experiences as iconic and unforgettable as the milestones we’re honoring throughout 2026,” said Ross D. Levi, executive director of tourism, I LOVE NY.
