Start your day at the Pearl Farmers market, located in front of the historic Pearl Brewery on the banks of the San Antonio River. Open every Saturday, rain orshine, sample seasonal products from the local vendors. Directly adjacent is the Culinary Institute of America’s San Antonio location. This branch opened a small café boasting delectable pastries and coffee. Breakfast costs about $7.

The Alamo is one of San Antonio’s most popular attractions. The site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo is now a 4.2-acre complex hosting tours and an outdoor garden. There is no admission fee to the historical site. The Alamo is open every day, except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Cheesy Janes is a great lunch spot, away from the downtown area. While known for their burgers, you can choose from plenty of other sandwich and salad options. With the choice of dozens of milkshake varieties, indulging in a sweet treat is a must. Lunch runs about $15.

The San Antonio Botanical Garden is perfect for an afternoon stroll. With 38 sprawling acres to explore, the garden hosts seasonal events, exhibits, camps and classes. Wander through the conservatory, gardens or many nature trails. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, the garden closes on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Adult admission is $10, or $8 for seniors, students or active military individuals.

Have dinner at La Margarita. Located in Market Square, the restaurant is famous for their fajitas. Many other Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes are available. Spend about $30 for your meal.

Make your way over to the River Walk, a network of walkways lined with restaurants and shops along the San Antonio River. Have a nightcap at SoHo Wine & Martini Bar steps away from the River Walk. Adventurous cocktail drinkers can sample from the specialty list featuring concoctions like the Carrot Cake Tini or the Rosemary Lemondrop.

If your trip coincides with the annual Fiesta celebration in April, check out the website for a complete list of free events.
