While more people are ditching their laptops for a tablet, e-readers are also growing in numbers, with people preferring the monochrome e-ink screens to iPad screens. Here are three to consider if you’re looking for a dedicated device for your books.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

While the more expensive Voyager has gotten praise as the best e-reader on the market, the Kindle Paperwhite provides the best value. You’ve got 4GB of storage, but the best part is Amazon offers a free 3G connection with no annual fees or monthly contract, allowing you to download books from anywhere and listen to Internet radio.

Kobe Glo HD

The Nook and Kindle are the most famous brands for e-readers, but Kobo has become a favorite for its smart design. The physical device is sleek and minimal, with just a power button and micro-USB port, eschewing the page-turn buttons common to most e-readers. The software on the other hand is rich in features, like Pocket for news articles and Reading Life, a social network for book lovers.

Nook GlowLight Plus

Nook releases the long-awaited update to their GlowLight e-reader, upgrading the specifications to compete with the Kindle Paperwhite. The Plus is now constructed with an aluminum body, giving it a more solid feel that’s only .7 ounces heavier. The metal construction is also waterproof and dust-proof, making it perfect for reading in the bathtub or on your travels.
