3 Jackson, Mississippi, Museums to Visit This Fall

If you find yourself in the South this late summer or fall, there are a few museums in Jackson, Mississippi, you might want to consider visiting.

International Museum of Muslim Cultures celebrates its 25th year. It was the first Muslim-dedicated museum in the country; visit and check out the displays dedicated to aspects of Muslim culture, such as calligraphy, textiles and ceramics.

Another museum celebrating a milestone, Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is in its 30th year. Peruse the archival footage and interactive exhibits, and learn more about the hall of fame’s more than 300 inductees.

Two Mississippi Museums encompasses both Mississippi History Museum and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, so plan to spend a long day (or a few) visiting the expansive museums’ offerings. Throughout the entire year, these museums focus on an exhibition called Mississippi Made, in conjunction with the country’s 250th birthday. The exhibit looks at the many cultural and innovative contributions Mississippians have made to United States history.
