These six flicks will make you consider turning that vacation into a staycation. Enjoy!

The Hills Have Eyes

Family vacations have never been so exciting. This remake of Wes Craven’s 1977 classic follows a family road trip West. The family finds themselves being hunted by a clan of mutants.

Hostel

College kids, think twice about that semester in Europe. Produced by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Eli Roth, this pioneering gore flick follows a pair of students who check into the wrong hostel.

The Descent

Spelunkers and cave divers, avoid this one. The Descent follows a group of adventurers trapped in a collapsed cave. Searching for a way out, the group realizes they are not alone down there.

Cabin Fever

Be sure to watch this on your next camping trip with friends. Director Eli Roth was inspired to make this film about a flesh-eating virus after taking a trip to Iceland where he developed a skin infection.

The Blair Witch Project

This one’s particularly frightening because of how real it looks. Set in the backwoods of Maryland, a group of hikers mysteriously disappear after experiencing a series of strange events. The movie is presented as lost tapes, popularizing the “found footage” genre.

Jaws

Technically, this is more of a thriller than horror movie, but Jaws’ 1975 release created an unwarranted panic over shark attacks across the eastern seaboard.
