Part of the Smithsonian complex, this museum houses the world’s largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft including the Wright brother’s plane and the Apollo 11 command module. Open daily, admission is free.
The museum is comprised of two buildings, one boasting classical art and the other modern art, as well as a sculpture garden. Special programming, rotating exhibits and activities for kids are available. Open daily, admission is free.
National Museum of Natural History
Another Smithsonian museum, the National Museum of Natural History is dedicated to understanding the natural world and our place within it. The building is larger than 18 football fields and features millions of artifacts. Open daily, admission is free.
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
The sobering museum focuses on the atrocities committed during the Holocaust through displays of artifacts, videos and special exhibitions. The museum is closed on Yom Kippur and Christmas day, admission is free.
