Tips / Travel

Just about every city in America has some kind of annual arts and crafts festival, but which are the best and actually worth a trip out of town?

One of a Kind Show + Sale, Chicago

With one event coming up in December and the other planned for next spring, you have two chances to shop ’til you drop at this crafty extravaganza. More than 600 crafters from around North America show up to display all kinds of amazing wares, from art to food to jewelry to gifts. Plus, there’s lots of great eating and entertainment on site.

Flea Style

Flea Style is all about an eclectic (and awesome) mix of handmade and vintage, and we can’t get enough. Head to the Dallas or the Houston fall shows, Oct. 21 or Nov. 18, respectively. The first 100 shoppers get a free tote bag, and you’ll want to get there early. The most popular vendors often sell out by lunchtime.

Vintage & Made

Another vintage and craft fair, this one in Iowa, is an outdoor market next door to an agricultural museum, outside of Des Moines. Show up Oct. 7–8, and see tons of vendors not just selling vintage and crafts, but actually living the lifestyle. Shop for antiques, home decor, handmade jewelry, flowers, food and more.

Crafty Wonderland Holiday Art+Craft Market

This event is a little unique, in that it’s tied to an actual brick and mortar store, Crafty Wonderland, in Portland. The market features more than 250 artists at the Oregon Convention Center, Dec. 9–10 (with a ticketed pre-opening shopping event Dec. 8). If you can’t make it, though, stop by the Portland store for just a brief sampling of the artists represented.
