Tips / Travel

A lot of Americans waste their vacation during the summer months or the last week of the year for the holidays, but one of the best times to travel is actually this month, in January. Prices tend to be more affordable and some countries truly come alive during this period of the year. Whether you’re looking to escape the cold or embrace it, there’s a place for you to visit.

Italy

While Italy is a beautiful country every month of the year, when winter strolls over the Dolomites, it becomes absolutely breathtaking. Sweeping mountainous vistas inland make the country seem like something out of a fairytale. The cities of Rome, Florence and Venice all look remarkable with a little snow, too.

New Zealand

While most of us are stuck in snow in the States, New Zealanders whip out the bathing suits and soak up some sun. The country has a reputation as one of, if not the most, pristine landscapes on Earth and its summer is the perfect time to explore.

Chile

South America is always pretty warm and January is no exception. It’s the perfect time to spend a few weeks hiking Chilean Patagonia. The skies are blue, the sun is bright, the air clean and the beaches are crisp and clear.

Canada

It’s pretty much true Canada turns into a white, frozen wasteland in the middle of winter. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth exploring. In fact, the country is at it’s most magnificent during the month of January when you’re sure to find glistening ice-capped mountains throughout most of the country.
