Not exactly looking forward to planning a romantic night on the town for you and your honey this Valentine’s Day? Tired of the same ol’ dinner date routine? There are plenty of fun, worldwide events to keep you occupied when Feb. 14 rolls around, whether you’re spending it single or traveling with your favorite person.
Cioccolentino is the perfect event to celebrate one of the best aspects of the holiday — chocolate. This festival for handmade chocolates takes place in Terni, Italy, where St. Valentine lived and is now buried. The festival is held Feb. 11–14, the perfect amount of time for a little getaway to the Italian countryside.
If you’d rather dance away the night, February marks the end of ball season in Vienna. Ball season offers residents and visitors alike more than 2,000 hours of dancing. If you’re in the city for Valentine’s Day weekend, you’ll find the Johann Strauss Ball, where you can waltz to your heart’s content, or, if you prefer, dance to newer tunes in one of the four ballrooms.
Valentine’s Day also happens to fall around Carnival in several destinations. If you happen to be in Spain, make a stop in the Canary Islands for the last few days of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival. The entire weekend will be filled with fun events and parties, perfect if you’re traveling solo.
Literary fans in London will love the special Valentine’s weekend event being held at Keats House. Guests will be treated to poetry readings, bubbly and more in the home of Romantic poet, John Keats. Of course, you may choose this tame distraction as just the prelude to a more rambunctious outing, such as to one of the single-friendly masquerade balls.
