Want to visit Yosemite National Park, but want to plan a trip as sustainable as possible (especially given how crowded national parks have grown in recent years)? Consider a stay at Evergreen Lodge, just reopened for its 2023 season in February.
Evergreen Lodge is a classic resort, but with a sustainability focus, placing a high value on social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. As an example of one of its environmental sustainability efforts, the 1920s property boasts an industry-leading commercial gray water program that repurposes 100 percent of the resort’s water on site, as well as a grassroots recycling program.
The lodge places an emphasis on social stewardship via its youth program. Each season, the lodge welcomes high-potential young adults from urban areas of the country on to its staff, who then work as paid, seasonal interns, gaining valuable skills in a national park environment that isn’t always easily accessible to some populations.
“We look forward to once again welcoming our guests to Evergreen Lodge, where we’ve been using business as a force for good for over 20 years,” said Lee Zimmerman, co-owner, Evergreen Lodge. “We love that our guests can feel good knowing that while they’re enjoying an epic Yosemite vacation, they’re also helping promising young people to gain experience and life skills and move toward independence.”
