The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and Kensington Tours honors the anniversary with a brand-new tour highlighting some of New Zealand’s terrain, much of which was featured in the film franchise.
New Zealand’s Big Screen Landscapes is a 12-day journey spanning Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, pairing the country’s natural beauty with the filmmaking heritage that has drawn audiences to the destination for years.
So, the burning question is, which sites from the films do you actually get to visit on this tour?

You’ll tour Hobbiton Movie Set, the largest outdoor film set in the world and the only The Lord of the Rings film set still standing in New Zealand. An expert guide leads you through the 12-acre set, detailing stories of how the location was transformed.
You’ll also trace Wellington’s Middle-earth locations with a specialist guide, from the banks of River Anduin to the gardens of Isengard, before going behind the scenes at Weta Workshop. Mount Sunday, the remote, high-country peak that became Edoras, capital of Rohan, is another stop on the tour, as is a TranzAlpine ride through the Canterbury Plains and river gorges to Arthur’s Pass.
The trip also features a flight above Queenstown with the pilot who served as the principal aerial pilot on the original trilogy, landing on a glacier beside the summits used as the Misty Mountains.
