Tips / Destination

The Grand Canyon is one of the most fascinating and awe-inspiring destinations in the world, but anyone who’s visited knows it isn’t cheap. Even something as small as a McDonald’s meal will cost you $12 and lodging just might send you into bankruptcy if you stay inside the park. However, there are a few places where you can rest and still save a few bucks.

Ten-X Campground

Yep, the best way to save your money at the Grand Canyon is to spend a night outdoors. The Ten-X Campground is the closest available outside of the park and is a well-kept site. There are multiple toilets on site, spacious campsites and water. The best part is it only costs $10 a night.

The Flintstones Bedrock City

If you’re looking for a few more amenities than your traditional campsite, check out Flintstones Bedrock City, just 30 miles outside of the park. It’s a colorful, kid-friendly RV and tent park with an on-site restaurant and buildings styled like those from the TV show. You’ll pay roughly $30 a night here.

Red Lake Hostel

This unassuming little hostel is located about 43 miles south of the park and provides only the most basic of amenities — like a bed and a bathroom. However, at only $20 a night you’d be hard-pressed to find something more affordable indoors. It’s right next to a gas station, so that sort of counts as a place to eat.

Cameron Trading Post and Motel

Roughly 30 miles to the south and east of Desert View lies the Cameron Trading Post and Motel. Rooms here start at $119 during the busy season, actually kind of a steal. It’s the price you’ll have to pay for a warm bed, decent breakfast and air conditioning near the Grand Canyon.
