National parks are generally open for leashed dogs, though California State Parks usually prohibit them on trails. Most city and county parks are dog friendly, and some even have areas for dogs to run free. If you’re looking to explore Los Angeles with your canine pal, be sure to check out the following trails.
Zuma Ridge Trail
Avid hikers who want a challenge can bring dogs to Zuma Ridge, a favorite spot for Los Angelenos who want multiple routes through the more remote side of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Bronson Canyon Trail
This might be the most recognizable trail as it leads to the entrance of the bat cave from the 1960s Batman TV series. It’s also a simple hike and has three man-made tunnels to explore.
Elysian Park
Elysian Park is a 570-acre hidden gem located close to downtown. Smaller dogs will enjoy the easy trails and sparse traffic, in addition to running free on the grass.
Runyon Canyon
This is by far the most popular place for hiking thanks to its location in the Hollywood Hills. Dogs must be on a leash at all times and cleaned up after with the provided mutt mitts.
Westridge–Canyonback
These trails offer beautiful views of the ocean and downtown. The park also provides mutt mitts and allows dogs to roam un-leashed as long as they’re under direct supervision.
You can win a trip to Los Angeles this summer by entering the 2016 PetSafe Photo Contest sponsored by United Airlines and Sofitel!
